The New York State GIS Program Office (NYSGPO) is pleased to announce that we updated the web service for hydrography data in New York State. This hydrography dataset is a subset of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) that loads filtered subsets of the NHD Waterbody, NHD Area, and NHD Flowline. We offer two map services (one solid fill, one hollow fill) that the end user can choose from, both services hit the same underlying data. These services are also scale trigger for waterbody size and labeling, more information about what is filtered out and what is scaled triggered is available in the service description of each service.

We have made the following changes over the past four months. Although NHD Waterbody was our primary focus we did edit NHD Flowline as needed.
HUC 02050103 Owego-Wappasening
~ 3350 ponds added to the dataset via missing LiDAR breaklines, and heads up digitizing from most recent orthoimagery
~ 350 outdated geometry removed (ponds that no longer exist)
~ 800 replaced/edited geometry – replaced with lidar breaklines or edited existing geometry
~ 50 Attribute changes – mostly Perennial ponds reclassified to Intermittent.
HUC 02030202 Southern Long Island
~ 2650 ponds added to the dataset via missing LiDAR breaklines, and heads up digitizing from most recent orthoimagery
~ 700 outdated geometry removed (ponds that no longer exist)
~ 2100 replaced/edited geometry – replaced with lidar breaklines or edited existing geometry
~ 350 Attribute changes – mostly Perennial ponds reclassified to Intermittent.
