The New York State GIS Program Office (NYSGPO) is pleased to announce that we updated the web service for hydrography data in New York State.   This hydrography dataset is a subset of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) that loads filtered subsets of the NHD Waterbody, NHD Area, and NHD Flowline.  We offer two map services (one solid fill, one hollow fill) that the end user can choose from, both services hit the same underlying data.   These services are also scale trigger for waterbody size and labeling, more information about what is filtered out and what is scaled triggered is available in the service description of each service.

We have made the following changes over the past two months.  Although NHD Waterbody was our primary focus we did edit NHD Flowline as needed.   We have also edited the web service to now show intermittent ponds which we define as ponds that may/may not have water in them depending on the time of year.

HUC 02050101 – Upper Susquehanna

~ 7,500 ponds added to the dataset via missing LiDAR breaklines, and heads up digitizing from most recent orthoimagery

~ 200 outdated geometry removed (ponds that no longer exist)

~ 1200 replaced/edited geometry – replaced with lidar breaklines or edited existing geometry

~ 225 Attribute changes – mostly Perennial ponds reclassified to Intermittent.

Awaiting approval from USGS

HUC 02050103 – Owego-Wappasening

Previously updated Watersheds

HUC 02050102 – Chenango

HUC 02030201 – Northern Long Island

USGS – 10 Meter DEM

We have also added an image service for the 10 meter DEM from USGS that is useful for areas where no high resolution DEM exists.  This service can be loaded from https://elevation.its.ny.gov/arcgis/rest/services/USGS_10_meter/ImageServer

Please let me know if you have any questions.
