The video from the April 23, 2018 event The Future of GIS in NYC: A GISMO – Hunter College Forum is now available for viewing on the Hunter College Department of Geography’s YouTube channel. Click here to watch the video now.
Please see the below message from Alan Leidner, President, NYC GISMO:
“I am pleased to report that on April 23rd we held a very successful Forum organized around the GIS Principles and Policies Draft Document that we had previously posted to our website. Thanks to Professor Sean Ahearn and Hunter College’s Geography Department, the Forum was held in the auditorium of the beautifully renovated Roosevelt House and was attended by about 90 people. It was also live streamed.
GISMO is now working harder than ever to improve GIS in NYC in ways that we believe will enhance your careers and strengthen our community. The Forum is part of a larger initiative to build a collective voice, advocate for best practices and lobby for changes in the way GIS is managed in New York City.
In case you missed the Forum, you may view the entire recording at https://youtu.be/tz30eDxsXuQ […] available from the GISMO website, is the latest version of the Principles and Policies Document updated by remarks made by Forum participants and recommendations sent to us by members of the GIS community. [notes from the forum were provided via email to the GISMO membership list]
GISMO officers and Board members will be encouraging City government to move forward with our recommendations. In coming weeks we will also be calling upon you – our GISMO members – to work with us.
On July 1st 2018 we will enter a new GISMO membership year. We hope you renew your membership as soon as possible. The cost remains $20 annually which includes membership in the NYS GIS Association. We also hope you will encourage your friends and colleagues to join GISMO today to receive an extended membership of about 14 months, to June 30, 2019. We currently have more than 375 members and our goal is to surpass 500 members by next year. The more of us there are, the more we can do together.
Student members: GISMO student membership remains free and will be automatically renewed as long as we can reach you by email. If you have graduated and are now working, we ask that you become a regular paying member and support us as we continue to support you professionally in your career.
To join GISMO or to renew your membership please go to www.gismonyc.org and click the Join Us! Tab at the upper right hand corner of the home page.
We have lots of events lined up for the coming year and we are looking forward to your participation with us in building our profession.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions or recommendations; or if you would like to volunteer time for GISMO initiatives.”
